Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist shines fresh light on the Last Supper by looking at it through Jewish eyes. Using his in-depth knowledge of the Bible and ancient Judaism, Dr. Brant Pitre answers questions such as: What was the Passover like at the time of Jesus? What were the Jewish hopes for the Messiah? What was Jesus' purpose in instituting the Eucharist during the feast of Passover? And, most important of all, what did Jesus mean when he said, "This is my body... This is my blood"?
To answer these questions, Pitre explores ancient Jewish beliefs about the Passover of the Messiah, the miraculous Manna from heaven, and the mysterious Bread of the Presence. As he shows, these three keys--the Passover, the Manna, and the Bread of the Presence--have the power to unlock the original meaning of the Eucharistic words of Jesus. Along the way, Pitre also explains how Jesus united the Last Supper to his death on Good Friday and his Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
Inspiring and informative, Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist is a groundbreaking work that is sure to illuminate one of the greatest mysteries of the Christian faith: the mystery of Jesus' presence in "the breaking of the bread."
Becoming Eucharistic People: The Hope and Promise of Parish Life

We cant just talkabout Christs presence in the Eucharist; we have to believe it, celebrate it, and liveit both individually and as a community of the faithful. And we must cultivate a culture in our parishes that treats Real Presence not only as an important Catholic doctrine, but also as the most important part of parish identity.
InBecoming Eucharistic People, theologian Timothy P. OMalley, author of Real Presence, outlines four essential dimensions of a Eucharistic culture in a parish one that fosters reverence and unity among the faithful, includes every dimension of human life in the mystery of Christs Body and Blood, and invites people back to parish life or to become Catholic for the first time.
OMalley director of education at the McGrath Institute of Church Life at the University of Notre Dame, academic director of the Notre Dame Center for Liturgy, and a member of the executive planning team for the US Conference of Catholic Bishops" Eucharistic Revival shows what it means to foster a parish culture where the Eucharist infuses the worldview, priorities, and practices of its members. OMalley leads you through discovery and discernment about how to create a parish culture where each person is called to holiness and receives the spiritual, theological, and pastoral help they need to meet Christ fully present in the Eucharist and to become a witness to him in the world.
OMalley will help you reflect on four essential facets of a Eucharistic parish culture:
- liturgies of joyful reverence that celebrate the gifts of diversity;
- formation that engages the mind, imagination, understanding, and will;
- a rich life of popular piety and the vibrancy of the domestic Church; and
- a commitment to solidarity with your neighbor.
O"Malley says that when we reflect Christ"s Real Presence to others, our parishes will become sacred spaces in which every person is led to deeper communion with God and with their neighbors.
Online resources, including ideas for parish retreats, teaching resources, and videos based on this book and the US bishops Eucharistic Revival are available from the McGrath Institute for Church Life.

Most Catholics dont believe that Jesus is really present in the Eucharist. Rather, they see the bread and wine of Holy Communion as mere symbols of Christ"s body and blood. Is that disbelief just a misunderstanding or is it a blatant rejection of one of the central beliefs of the faith?
InReal Presence, University of Notre Dame theologian Timothy P. OMalley clears up the confusion and shows you how to learn to love God and neighbor through a deeper understanding of the doctrine of real presence.
A 2019 study by the Pew Research Center found that almost seventy percent of Catholics don"t believe that Jesus is really present in the Eucharist.
O"Malley offers a concise introduction to Catholic teaching on real presence and transubstantiation through a biblical, theological, and spiritual account of these doctrines from the early Church to today. He also explores how real presence enables us to see the vulnerability of human life and the dignity of all flesh and blood.
O"Malley leads you to a deeper understanding and renewed faith in Catholic teaching about transubstantiation and real presence by helping you learn
- how the doctrine of real presence is rooted in divine revelation and how the Church"s teaching regarding transubstantiation is spiritually fruitful for the believer today;
- how to make your own the doctrine of real presence by worshipping Christ in the Eucharist and therefore making a real assent to real presence;
- how the Eucharist, although not the exclusive presence of Christ in the Church"s liturgy and mission, is crucial in growing our capacity for recognizing those other presences; and
- the important relationship between Eucharistic communion and adoration.
You are invited here to explore the biblical springs of the Eucharist. Through this exploration, you will enrich your understanding of this sacrament and deepen your appreciation of the great gift it is.
Through texts from the Old Testament, the gospels, and New Testament letters, you will discover that the Eucharist unites the prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of our lives as an offering in union with Christ. Through meditation on these texts, you will learn to cultivate a Eucharistic life of prayer and active commitment in the world.

"Here, then, is our heaven on earth--the Most Blessed Sacrament."
” St. Alphonsus Ligouri
This book was conceived and written by the great St. Alphonsus Liguori to help us grow in the knowledge and love of God and in appreciation for what He has done for us. Designed to be prayed in front the Blessed Sacrament each day over the course of a month, users of this powerful book cannot help but grow closer to Christ.
Visits to the Blessed Sacrament provides a wealth of spiritual treasures, including:
-
- 31 days of meditations and fervent prayers of love by St. Alphonsus toward Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
- A daily "Visit to Our Lady," short prayers of confidence in the enormous power of Our Mother s help
- An act of Spiritual Communion for each day, reigniting our love for Our Lord even when we cannot receive His Body and Blood in the Eucharist
And so it is for our spiritual life. The sacraments are the very lifeblood of our soul, yet in the midst of our busy lives, we can fail to understand their power and importance. Without them, we are spiritually dead. With them, the very life of God runs through us.
In this new book from Fr. Matthew Kauth, the Church s seven sacraments are presented in such a way that no reader will ever again take them for granted. Fr. Kauth brilliantly illuminates not only the scriptural foundation and profound spiritual realities of each sacrament but also the necessity of each as a means to living a happy and fulfilled life that leads to heaven.
Highlights include:
- How the sacraments are anchored in the life and death of Jesus and are the medium through which he pours his life into our souls.
- Discovering the purpose, meaning, and symbolism behind the matter of the sacraments: water, bread, oil, wine.
- Understanding how Christ administers his sacraments through human hands and what our own role is in receiving them.
- How Mary s strength and fortitude, attributes we don t normally attribute to her, are a model for Confirmation.
- An expert dissection of the instrumentality, effects, elements, character, and fruits of each sacrament.
- How the sacrament of marriage reaches all the way back to Genesis but finds its full meaning in the passion of Jesus.
"I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world. (John 6:51-52)
There is no greater gift that God has given his Church than this: that the Eucharist is a visible sign of the self-sacrificing love, which continues to save the world from sin.
On many occasions throughout the history of the Catholic Church, God has provided us with visible proof of the reality of the Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.
In her book, Eucharistic Miracles, Joan Carroll Cruz documents 36 miracles that occurred from 800 A.D. to the present day. This book tells of consecrated Hosts that have turned to human flesh, bled, levitated, and have become hard as flint when received by a person in mortal sin. It details the official investigations that have been made into these miracles by scientists throughout the world, as well as the locations of the miracles that can still be venerated today. Eucharistic Miracles also recounts miraculous Eucharistic phenomena in the lives of saints: saints who lived with only the Eucharist for sustenance, experienced raptures, ecstasies, levitations, visions, locutions, and much more ¦
Photographs of the miracles, the churches they took place in, the art they inspired, and the people involved are included ”these add the final touch to a comprehensive, detailed, and extraordinary overview of these Eucharistic miracles.
Eucharistic Miracles is a superb compilation of God's visible testimony of the truth of the Catholic Faith, proving the reality of one of its loftiest mysteries: the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.
There were radical changes in the Order of Mass promulgated by Pope Paul VI in 1969. Beyond the use of the vernacular, these included a more dialogic format of the Mass, the transformation of the offertory rite to a preparation of gifts, a complete revision of the lectionary, new eucharistic prayers, and communion under both forms. In Eucharistic Adoration after Vatican II, Edward Foley examines the relationship between Vatican II, liturgical prayer, and contemporary eucharistic adoration and devotions.
Edward Foley, Capuchin, is Duns Scotus Professor of Spirituality Emeritus and retired professor of liturgy and music at Catholic Theological Union. Foley has authored or edited thirty books, including A Handbook for Catholic Preaching (Liturgical Press), and his works have been translated into nine languages. A celebrated preacher and presenter, he received a major grant from the John Templeton Foundation for Preaching and the Sciences. A recipient of lifetime achievement awards from the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions, the North American Academy of Liturgy, and the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, he has lectured in over seventy dioceses throughout the English-speaking world.

Eucharistic Meditations offers extracts from the Writings and Instructions of Saint John Vianney
Saint Jean-Baptiste Marie Vianney, known affectionately as The Curé d'Ars, was a peasant priest. In the aftermath of the French Revolution and Napoleonic rule, in a time of anti-clericalism and social and economic disarray, he was appointed parish priest of the obscure and dispirited village of Ars.
Over the next forty years, he was the agent of a complete spiritual, social, and material reform of his parish, which became a joyful refuge and a place of pilgrimage. Men and women would travel for weeks simply to confess before the humble and holy man. His particular devotion to the Blessed Sacrament is manifest in this book of twenty-seven meditations, which had its first English edition two years before his canonization in 1925.
St. John Vianney is now celebrated as the patron of parish priests.
