$14.95
Unit price perSince the ending of Vatican II, the church has officially published no fewer than eight major documents calling for adults to be the center of the church's educational mission. And the Catholic faithful are calling on the church to quench their thirst for a deepening of their lived faith. They realize that the catechesis they received as children simply isn't enough to continue in the faith as adults in the church and world; they desire a deepened faith.
In Deepening Faith, Janet Schaeffler, OP, offers a practical guide and source of encouragement to parish and diocesan committees, catechists, and adult faith formation teams. She outlines the essential foundations, methods and strategies that can support this journey for today's adults of all ages and generations.

Unit price perChristian Initiation Of Older Children - NN21035
$19.95
Unit price perThis revised and updated edition of Preparing Older Children for Baptism prepares non-baptized children of catechetical age, with the help of a parent, to become full members of the Church. The first section explores the meaning of baptism in the context of salvation history. The second explains the symbols and the ritual of baptism following the three steps on the way to full sacramental initiation as described in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. The third section looks at the Eucharist as the sacrament which nourishes the new life received in baptism. While the content is primarily intended for non-baptized children, it could also be used to help boys and girls already baptized to complete their own Christian initiation through their first Communion.

Parents play an essential role in the faith journey of their children who are preparing to enter the Catholic Church through the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and Eucharist. Parents nurture their children's faith, create a prayer-filled home environment, and guide the family's engagement in parish life. Along the way, however, parents often have questions about the process of initiation that is outlined in the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) and the way it applies to their children. This booklet answers those questions and encourages parents to support their children in the life of faith. Initiation coordinators and catechists can also use this book to begin a conversation with parents and guardians about the sacramental journey for their children as it is outlined in the OCIA.

On the Cover:
"Then Jesus approached and said to [the eleven disciples], All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.
This edition of The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults has been designed with careful attention to the significant role the baptized have in leading new disciples to the waters of the font and embracing a life rooted in Jesus' Great Commission.
The outer rounded cruciform shape of the cover illustration is based on ancient quatrefoil baptismal fonts that emerged in fourth-century Rome and were common in North Africa and in the East. This particular image was inspired by an architectural design found on the floor of the Chapel of Cardinal James of Portugal in Florence, Italy. Beyond the obvious sign of the baptismal font, the four lobes call to mind the fluid process of initiation that involves four distinct periods. The number four can also point to the four evangelists, whose writings are central to the formation of new disciples.
The quatrefoil shape is suggestive of a compass. The compass displays four directions: north, south, east, and west. Decorating each of the four lobes are flowers that represent the diversity of the Universal Church, which new Christians are being initiated into: the Easter lily (universal usage), dogwood (North America and Asia), plum (Asia), Easter cactus (South America).
Three levels of triangular circles lead to the center of the image, three overlapping circles representing the Most Holy Trinity. The three levels point to the three major steps in the Christian initiation process, steps that lead new Christians into the divine dance that is the Trinitarian relationship.

Unit price perThe recent retranslation and US adaptation of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults can be seen as the work of the Second Vatican Council continuing to unfold, fulfilling the council's mandate to draw up texts and rites so that they express more clearly the holy things that they signify Sacrosanctum concilium, 21). In this present volume, A Pastoral and Theological Commentary on the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, fourteen authors all scholars and pastoral ministers steeped in the Church's living liturgical tradition help us appreciate this unfolding more deeply by presenting the historical development and theological significance of the OCIA rites and texts, thus enriching our pastoral practice.
Introductory essays present a contextual foundation, including discussion of historical and theological roots and an exposition of Christian Initiation: General Introduction Then, following the structure of the OCIA, eight chapters of commentary concentrate on each stage of Christian initiation, from acceptance into the Order of Catechumens through the Period of Mystoagogy, including chapters on the Rites for Particular Circumstances. Further commentaries on the musical enrichment of the rites and on the newly revised National Statues for the Catechumenate round out this panoramic, yet accessible, view of the rites of the OCIA.
This book is for anyone ministering in or studying Christian initiation. We believe it offers a deep understanding of the rites for both those long familiar with this process and those fairly new to it. For those who wish to pursue further study, either casual or in-depth, a vast array of endnotes and bibliographies offer plenty of suggestions editor Victoria Tufano, from the introduction).
